Shorthand may be intended to make your company seem more familiar and friendly, yet it can alienate your customers and clients.
Who would name themselves ABC Company and expect name recognition? And yet we have the American Broadcast Company, ABC Carpet, ABC Company (a bus company) and thousands of other ABC wannabees. Clients often request that we design a logo for their company’s acronym and we tell them that unless you have the marketing budget of GM, IBM, or a television network you probably won’t get too far promoting a bunch of letters as your identity. There’s a tendency to use shorthand to make your company seem more familiar and friendly, yet that actually alienates your customers and clients. And you may think it’s easier to remember, but name recognition among alphabet soup names is difficult. What does ESPN stand for? It no longer matters because the ESPN acronym has become its own name. (And most of us don’t have access to the screen time that ESPN has.)
Sometimes we are guilty of shortening our company Langton Cherubino Group to LCG and wanted to know what that acronym might mean. And of course, there are websites for that!
www.acronymfinder.com and www.all-acronyms.com.
Here are some of our favorite LCGs:

We found out that LCG is the code for the Goldsboro-Wayne Municipal Airport, a public airport located three miles north of the central business district of Goldsboro, in Wayne County, North Carolina, USA. This general aviation airport covers 249 acres and has one runway. Perhaps that is where we will find our luggage when it gets lost at LGA.
