Rescue Dinner: Human Beings

What does your nonprofit stand for?

"If you don't stand for anything, what will you fall for?" Alexander Hamilton asks Aaron Burr in the Broadway musical "Hamilton." It's a question every nonprofit organization needs to ask itself. How do you address an issue like supporting refugees without being political? We created a theme around "Human Beings" where we presented Refugees, Migrants, and Asylum Seekers not as just labels, but as people just like you. We transformed the ballroom at the New York Hilton with large portraits of people and placed small mirrors on each of the tables so that all the guests could see themselves as Human Beings who are all in this together. The Rescue Dinner gala raised over $16 million for the International Rescue Committee.

“For our signature gala, we were looking for a fresh way to convey our values and communicate a message of hope. Langton Creative came back to us with very bold, out of the box concepts.

The final concept was used to develop creative assets and to build messaging for the live program. The concept was well received by our internal stakeholders and resonated with our gala audience.”

Setting the tone: As guests for the Rescue Dinner arrive they immediately see the photos and theme graphics wrapped around the escalators and stairwells.

The Rescue Dinner invitation featured the theme “Human Beings” meaning we are all
in this together. The Rescue Dinner raised $16 million at the New York
Hilton in New York City.

We created table centerpieces that featured photos of refugees and a mirror so attendees could see themselves as Human Beings who are all in this together.

The program featured honoree Diane von Furstenbrerg.

The columns in the ballroom and the reception area of The New York Hilton were wrapped in images of refugees, migrants, unaccompanied children, asylum seekers, immigrants, and stateless human beings.
